Rocket League Sideswipe Car Hitboxes & Best Car To Play

2/9/2022 11:32:55 AM

In this guide, we dive into Car Hitboxes in Rocket League Sideswipe, featuring the seven most common cars in the game: Octane, Dominus, Merck, Distro, Scarab, Werewolf, and Aftershock. We'll take you through the process of finding the hitboxes and give you our opinion on which cars are the best and which are the worst.

What is Car Hitbox in Rocket League Sideswipe?

Simply, a hitbox is the part of the car that interacts with the other objects in the game, like the ball and the floor. When you drive your dominus into the ball, the ball doesn't care about the body of your car at all, the only thing it cares about is the hitbox.

How To Test Hitbox in Rocket League Sideswipe?

  • Way 1 - In fact a great way to test this is to go into Rocket League and use a mod that shows the car's hitbox on screen, then you can see exactly what's happening when you do things like air dribbles - you can see where the ball and the hitbox come into contact and how the ball totally ignores the body of your car.

  • Way 2 - Another way to test this which you can do in sideswipe is to flip your car onto each side and see how much of it clips through the floor or floats above it.

  • Way 3 - Here's we identified the hitboxes in Sideswipe basically with a combination of the two methods above: to test the front of the hitbox, air dribble the ball from below so that the nose of the car is touching the ball, then draw a line at the contact point indicating where the hitbox is; for the back of the hitbox,  aim up and plant the car on the floor, then draw a line where the car end and the floor begin; and to test the top of the hitbox, flip the car onto its roof and draw a line either here or here depending on the car.

Octane Hitbox

If we compare Octane Hitbox in Sideswipe to the octane's hitbox in Rocket League, it fits almost identically on each side, the only difference is at the bottom which is just down to the way that the wheels move independently of the body in Rocket League, whereas in sideswipe we don't think that's the case.

Although it is possible that the hitbox actually ends somewhere around the middle of the wheels rather than right at the bottom, but probably not an important difference. So all the cars are octane hitboxes but they're not all the same.

Hitboxes Rank of Cars - What is the Best Car in Rocket League Sideswipe?

  • No. 1 - Octane: Top (Perfect), Front (Great), Back (Great)

  • No. 2 - Scarab: Top (OK), Front (Perfect), Back (Great)

  • No. 3 - Aftershock: Top (Perfect), Front (OK), Back (OK)

  • No. 4 - Merc: Top (Bad), Front (OK), Back (Bad)

  • No. 5 - Dominus: Top (Bad), Front (Bad), Back (Bad)

  • No. 6 - Diestro: Top (Bad), Front (Bad), Back (Bad)

  • No. 7 - Werewolf: Top (Bad), Front (Bad), Back (Bad)

Some of these cars fit really well into that hitbox like the Octane, Scarab, and Aftershock which are all really good overall. Especially the scarab which is absolutely cracked at the front.

The top is the biggest issue and it results in the ball clipping through the top of your car when you're dribbling and the three long cars: the Dominus, Diastro, and Werewolf, all are bad at the front, top, and back; and the De-ester is particularly bad at the back, it sits so far outside the back of the hip box, it's actually a potential problem in-game. And then there's the Merc which looks like a fat dude wearing clothes four sizes too small, most of him is sitting outside the hitbox.
