In this guide, let's analyze class changes at this important milestone and predict the WoW SoD Phase 2 class tier list separately for PvE Raid and PvP.

Season of Discovery PvE Raid Tier List (Phase 2 - Level 40)

S-Tier

  • Hunter - Arguably the biggest winner of Phase 2. Receiving new abilities like Steady Shot and multiple talent upgrades, Hunters are set to dominate meters with outstanding sustained damage. Their pet strengths will further cement their status as the top ranged DPS.

  • Warlock - While still retaining their Phase 1 powers, Warlocks get even stronger with Demonic Sacrifice and Shadowbolt. Immense powers like Rain of Fire will make them unrivaled in AoE situations.

A-Tier

  • Mage - New hard-hitting Arcane spells coupled with Ignite making Fire more potent will keep Mages at the forefront of caster DPS. Improved Pyroblast and Hot Streak procs will enhance their prowess.

  • Warrior - Level 40 talents greatly empower Warriors. Death Wish and Sweeping Strikes, along with improved weapon dps, will allow them to truly shine in Cleave situations and challenge Hunters.

B-Tier

  • Druid - Feral gets Mangle and Predatory Strikes, improving threat generation. Balance benefits from Starshards, making them viable through strong group utility.

  • Rogue - Several talents like Slice and Dice, Improved Eviscerate and Blade Flurry will address scaling issues. Deadly Throw is a useful tool, but still reliant on gear.

C-Tier

  • Paladin - Seal of Command and improved Judgement extends their niche. Mana problems persist despite no new mana talents. Ret and Prot remain unfavored for endgame.

  • Shaman/Priest - While gaining talents, they don't receive major gamechangers and continue facing issues from Phase 1. Prove situational based on encounters.

Season of Discovery PvP Tier List (Phase 2 - Level 40)

S-Tier

  • Hunter - Master's Call, Camouflage and Improved Feign Death make them dominant gankers. Careful Aim boosts already prolific damage in battlegrounds.

  • Warlock - Demon Armor, Improved Drain Soul and Shadowburn allow them to duel effectively while sustaining with Life Tap. Immensely disruptive.

A-Tier

  • Druid - Several Feral upgrades like Rip and Pounce synergize with Nature's Grasp greatly. Balance bolstered by Moonkin Form and Force of Nature.

  • Mage - Sheep gives Control. Blast Wave and Improved Blizzard cement AOE prowess in battleground scenarios. Slow remains punishing.

B-Tier

  • Rogue - Blade Flurry grants powerful burst. Preparation and Improved Sap extend utility. Still faces scaling issues against well-geared opponents 1v1.

  • Warrior - Death Wish facilitates powerful burst combos. Improved Intercept and Second Wind improve survivability compared to Phase 1.

C-Tier

  • Shaman - Several Elemental talents and Rockbiter improve duels over Phase 1. Scaling and totems leave them disadvantaged versus other classes.
