1. Turn Your Generic USB Controller Into A Xbox Controller

If you only have a old cheap USB controller and want to use it play a nice game like Rocket League in multi-splitscreens with your friend or family, the first thing you should do is to turn a generic USB controller into a Xbox One Controller as the game doesn't detect your old controller and the key configurations are messed up. To do this you not only can save money for buying a controller but also can play splitscreen finally. To turn a generic USB controller into a Xbox Controller, you can need to use the software - TocaEdit Xbox 360 Controller Emulator, it’s really useful for a guy who only has generic usb controllers.

How to use and set?

1). Down the ControllerPath here;

2). Copy paste the patch into the game's exe folder (in this case, steamapps/common/rocket league/binaries/win32/);

3). plug in your controller;

4). open the patch (Run As Admin);

5). When it prompts to add files (x360xce etc.) just say yes. (there are two prompts);

6). Another 3rd prompt will appear. cancel this one;

7). Set your key bindings or load from the presets at the dropdown menu;

8). DONT FORGET TO SAVE;

9). Close the patch;

10). Run game;

Note:

1). Only set key bindings once. If you plugged a new controller, set key bindings again.

2). Please remember to ALWAYS plug the controller FIRST everytime running the game. (Because the software only runs when controllers are detected)

3). This works on all controller-supported games. Just put it inside the .exe folder.

So basically, you do everything in this guide, you can plug in multiple controllers, too. This means you can play 4P splitscreen with only 3 controllers. Player1 will utilize the keyboard/mouse. How? Keep reading!

2. Splitscreen With Only 1 Controller

1). After you've done all the steps in the above guide, open the rocket league game directory

(Steam\steamapps\common\rocketleague\Binaries\Win32)

2). In the folder, locate a file called "x360ce.ini". Open it using notepad. (make sure that rocketleague and x360.exe is not running)

3). Pay attention to the "Mappings" section. That's where we will be working on.

4). If you mapped only 1 controller, only 1 ControllerID will be there. What you need to do is to Cut (ctrl+X) the ControllerID and paste it on another PAD line.

5). If you understand perfectly, all you need to do is to make sure there is no ContollerID in the PAD1 line. This will avoid the game to assign any controller to Player1.

6). Save the file, run the game. You will see the "Press 'start' to join" notice at the bottom of the screen.
