After Fortnite can now compete in Rocket League on game 4 against players on other platforms - the allocation is random. For crossplay parties players have to create private matches for the time being.

Sony now also allows cross-platform multiplayer games on game 4 in Rocket League. This means that owners of a PS4 can compete against players who are themselves sitting on a Nintendo Switch, Xbox One or on a computer running Windows, MacOS or Linux. The option is available for all modes and is enabled by default - if you want to check or disable this, find the appropriate option under "Gameplay".

The allocation of players to the games is done according to the California-based developer studio Psyonix, which is behind Rocket League, by chance. In his blog, the company writes that no special cross-platform parties are possible - this feature will be added later with an update later in the year. Until then, however, players can compete with their friends in private matches that can be set up with just a few clicks.

Rocket League is only the second game officially offering Crossplay on game 4. Officially, like the first supported title, Fortnite, it's still part of a beta. Sony had allowed the cross-platform multiplayer matches only late September 2018 after much resistance and much public pressure from the community and competitors such as Microsoft.

Before that, the group had suppressed the cross-platform gaming on its console with reference to security concerns. Of any major technical issues with the servers, at least so far, nothing has been reported at Fortnite. Probably Crossplay should be gradually offered for other programs.

In any case, Psyonix is very positive that this is now possible in Rocket League. This is "important because we know that our community has long been seeking support for cross-platform gaming." And we expect the Rocket League items trade cross-platform would be available sooner or later.
